Cairo in Arabic is actually AL QAHIRA meaning “The Triumphant”, named by Al Muez one of her Babylonian rulers. The foundations for Cairo were laid by Al Muez’s aid Gauwhar in the tenth century.

Cairo is situated in the northeast part of Egypt. The great Blue Nile snakes through Cairo from the north to the south splitting her into two parts-east and west. It is home to one of the most famous gigantic Seven Wonders of the World “The Pyramids of Giza”.

To get there you can contact your nearest travel agent or book your tickets online. A number of renowned airlines fly to Cairo, such as Emirates, British Airways, Austrian, KLM, and Egypt Air.

The Pyramids: The Egyptian pharos built the pyramids to preserve their mortal remains by mummification. They are symbols of the Egyptians’ belief in resurrection and the afterlife. The famous Pyramids of Giza are located at the western outskirts of Cairo.

There are three of them - the Small or First pyramid, the Second and the Great Pyramid. King Khufu also known as Cheops of the Fourth Dynasty built the great pyramid. Khufu’s son Khafre also known as, Chephren built the second pyramid. It is located to the south west of the great pyramid. The remains of Khafre's mortuary temple, the Temple of the Valley, and rising causeway can be seen at this site. These temples witnessed the religious rites during the embalming of the body.

Menkaure or Mycerinus built the third pyramid. Although very small as compared to the first and second, its distinguishing factor is the original granite slab covering the lower sides. It is located to the south-west of both the second and the great pyramids.

The Sphinx: On the way to the Temple of the Valley, lies the large statue of the Sphinx. One of most famous monuments in the world, it is a legendary statue for it has the body of a lion and the face of a man. It is 70 m long and 20 m high. The face of the Sphinx closely resembles that of King Kephren.

The Museum at Tahrir Square: offers visitors a chance to acquaint themselves with Egypt's ancient history over a period of 50 centuries. Its most significant artifact is the magnificent King Tutankhamen collection.

Religious monuments: Cairo is not just a confluence of great civilizations but also of the different religions that its people followed.

Churches: Most of the ancient churches are located in the Old Cairo, near the ruins of the Fortress of Babylon. Most of them were constructed around the 4th 5th and 6th century when Christianity spread in the area. Some such interesting sites are –

Al Muaallaqah or Hanging Church was constructed around the 4th or 5th Century, named "Al-Muaallaqah" because it was built on top of the south gate of the Fortress of Babylon.

Church of Abu Sergah (St Sergius) is built on the cave in which the Holy Family is believed to have stayed when they came to Egypt. It is regarded as a source of blessing. Church of Al-Adra (The Virgin) dates back to the 8th Century, it contains some precious icons and has three "haykals" behind ivory-inlaid wooden screens. Church of the Virgin in Zaytoon gained special significance after people reported the Apparition of the Virgin above one of itsChristianity in Egypt, were moved to this Cathedral from Venice where they had remained since their transport from Alexandria in the Middle Ages.

The virgin’s tree and the Coptic museum are other interesting sites revealing dome. It is located in Al-Zaytoon, in northeast Cairo.

The Cathedral of Al-Qiddis Morcos or St Mark is the largest church in Africa; it was built recently in Abbassia. The remains of St. Mark, the first to preach the presence of Christianity in Egypt.

Mosques: The mosques of Egypt are testimony to the popularity of Islam in the country

Mosque of Amr Ibn Al-Aas (Al-Fustat) was the first mosque built in Egypt and Africa.

Mosque of Ahmed Ibn Tulum is the third largest mosque built in Egypt. It has a spacious hall (saha), unique spiral minaret and a large collection of gypsum decoration.

AL Azhar Mosque was founded in Midan Hussein by Gawhar al-Sikilli in AD 971 as both a mosque and Madrasah (school). It is named after Fatma al-Zahraa, the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad. It is considered the oldest Islamic University.

The Blue Mosque located in Tibbanah Street has one of the most impressive blue mosaics on its walls.

The museum of Islamic art or Bab Al-Khalq is regarded as the largest in the Middle East. It houses 80,000 rare objects dating from early Islam to the Ottoman period.

Finally! So you have saved a whole year for your diving holiday, finally... time off from work. And you want it to be worth it, right! It can be hard nowadays to find the right holiday, especially when you get all these offers on your table. If you haven't been on a diving holiday before than use these tips te get you on the right track.

So, how do you know where to look? If you don't know where to look for diving holidays then a search engine like Google can get you started. Type in keywords like "diving holiday red sea" and you probably find what you are looking for. However....

It is probably a wise idea to look for independant websites that provide you with information about diving destinations. Most of the time those sites have reviews about dive centers and resorts. That's what you are looking for: reviews from customers. It is a good idea to look for diving forums and ask around about dive centers and resorts in certain areas. Make sure that the reply doesn't comes from the owner of the dive center himself :). Be careful with reading though guestbooks because site owners are likely to have removed all the negative feedback.

A good site for example is the site from padi. com. PADI stands for Professional Association for Diving Instructors and is the market leader for diving education. On their website you can find dive centers listed by regions. You can be sure that those dive centers are checked by PADI which means that they will have to stand up to certain standards. PADI also has the PADI travel network which is quite a good tour operator.

Where to go? It depends on what you are looking for! There are many aspects that make a diving holiday your perfect diving holiday. The first thing that you probably will have to decide is whether to do a live-aboard or not. Live-aboard diving means a lot of dives, and usually not much activity on land. They usually offer the best diving and can be a bit more expensive than traditional boat/shore diving.

Also think about boat diving or shore diving. Both types have their ups and downs. Shore diving can be more adventurious with exciting entries and exits. It can be a little bit more work than on a boat though.

Boat dives can be very relaxing but for some people the surface interval is too boring. Renting a whole boat with a dive club could be great fun!!

If you are looking for more excentric holidays then think about camel dive safaris, yoga diving holidays, freediving and diving holidays etc. Their are companies out there that combine land excursions with SCUBA diving, offering a more complete package.

What to look for at offers The best offers are usually the ones with flights, transfers and tax included. Make sure that you are aware of any additional costs. What you are looking for are offers that provide you with as much information as possible.

Don't forget your research... Make sure that before you book your holiday, you have done the necessary research. Give the dive center a call, send a few emails. If you want to do a course, then talk to your instructor if possible. Get reviews from other customers. Simply get to know as much as possible and follow your instinct.

With the cold weather moving in, many families start to worry if they have everything to prepare their pets for winter. Winter storms pose a serious risk to pets’ safety as water valves and gates freeze; most driveways become impossible to drive or walk on. What really happens when you file for bankruptcy

S Trustee Program wherein only counselors and educators that appear on the program's list can counsel you. By law the U. S. Trustees Program cannot operate in Alabama and North Carolina because they have what are referred to as Bankruptcy Administrators.

The credit counseling and debtor education might not take place at the same time. But it is necessary to complete both for those who are filing for bankruptcy. The counseling must take place before filing, a certificate of credit counseling completion must be attained when filing for bankruptcy. The debtor education program normally takes place after the filing.

The counseling session consists of an evaluation of personal financial situations, a discussion of alternatives to bankruptcy, and a budget plan. The session should normally take about an hour, and the filer has the option of taking the session in person, on line, or over the phone. For those that cannot afford to pay for the counseling the organization is required to provide their services free of charge. But for those who can afford to pay the fee will be about $50 depending on location. Once the counseling is complete you are given a certificate as proof you have taken the course.

It is up to you to decide what organization you will use for credit counseling. When you are calling around please make sure you ask some of the following questions. What services to you offer? What are you fees? What if I can't afford them? What qualifications do your counselors have? Will you help me develop a plan for avoiding problems in the future. If you ask at least half of these questions, you will have a good idea about the organization and your decision making will be much easier.

The educational courses will consist of similar information as the counseling sessions, budgeting, using credit wisely. Like the counseling sessions you have a number of options on how you can take the educational courses, in person, over the phone or on line. These courses last longer at about two hours and the fee is anywhere between $50 to $100. You can seek a waiver if you are unable to pay. You should also receive a certificate as proof that you have taken the course.

As brightly colored leaves dazzle the fall landscape, hikers and hunters nationwide will migrate to mountains, woods and fields, but many, unfortunately, are ill prepared for the beating their feet will take, warns the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS).

"Hikers, hunters and others who love the outdoors often don't realize how strenuous it can be to withstand constant, vigorous walking on uneven terrain," said Marco Vargas, DPM, AACFAS, a foot and ankle surgeon based in Sugar Land, TX. An avid outdoorsman himself, Vargas said lax physical conditioning and inappropriate footwear bring scores of outdoor enthusiasts into his office each fall for treatment of foot and ankle problems such as chronic heel pain, ankle sprains, Achilles tendonitis, fungal infections and severe blisters.

"Walking up and down steep hillsides and tramping through wet, slippery fields and wooded areas puts stress on the muscles and tendons in the feet and ankles, especially if you haven't conditioned properly before hitting the trail," said Vargas. "Also, many don't realize that cross-training athletic shoes aren't the best choice for extended hiking and hunting. Had some of my patients worn sturdy, well constructed hiking boots, they wouldn't have suffered sprained ankles or strained Achilles tendons."

Vargas advises hikers and hunters to make the investment in top-quality hiking boots. He said strong, well insulated and moisture-proof boots with steel or graphite shanks offer excellent ankle and foot support that helps lessen stress and muscle fatigue to reduce injury risk. "The supportive shank decreases strain on the arch by allowing the boot to distribute impact as the foot moves forward. So if a boot bends in the middle, don't buy it."

In wet and cold weather, wearing the right socks can help prevent blisters, fungal infections and frostbite. Vargas recommends synthetic socks as the first layer to keep the feet dry and reduce blister-causing friction. For the second layer, wool socks add warmth, absorb moisture away from the skin, and help make the hiking boot more comfortable. "Wool lets moisture evaporate more readily than cotton, so fewer blisters develop," added Vargas.

What happens if your feet or ankles hurt during a hike or hunt? Vargas said pain usually occurs from overuse, even from just walking. "If you're not accustomed to walking on sloped or uneven ground, your legs and feet will get tired and cause muscles and tendons to ache," he explained. "To avoid a serious injury, such as a severe ankle sprain or an Achilles tendon rupture, rest for awhile if you start hurting."

"Serious injury risk escalates significantly if you continue hiking in pain," Vargas said. He likened hiking to skiing in that beginners should take on less difficult trails until they become better conditioned and more confident.

Vargas also recommends visiting a foot and ankle surgeon if there is persistent foot or ankle pain following a hiking or hunting outing. "I'm most concerned about ankle instability and strained Achilles tendons. Inattention to these problems at their early stages may lead to a serious injury that will keep you off the trails for a long time," Vargas said.
