Student debt

One of the biggest problems today is the accumulation of debt by students during their time spent in university or collage. Many students go to school, work part time and are considered eligible for a credit card. In fact many credit card companies offer incentives targeted to attract collage and university students and entice them into obtaining a credit card.

The difficulty with student debt is this. Most students going through university or collage take advantage of various student loan programs. These programs are offered by many institutions and are often backed in some fashion or another by various levels of government. The loans are usually given to the students to cover the costs associated with attending university including tuition, living expenses, books, and study materials. These loans are often granted on the condition that they become due and payable at a given period of time after the student has graduated. This means that by the end of a four year degree a student could accumulate $40,000 or more in outstanding loans.

On top of the above student loans we now compound the problem by giving the students credit cards. Using a credit card is a very convenient way of spending money. It is also a very easy way to accumulate debt. Unlike bank loans or other conventional borrowing methods, credit cards usually charge very high interest rates. They are designed for convenience not for economy. Students working on a part time basis earn a minimum amount of money and can ill afford large interest rates. The result is that they gradually over the course of their studies accumulate a running debt that by graduation has become a significant amount of money.

Upon graduation the college or university student is now faced with an extraordinary debt load. Usually within 3-6 months of graduation their government low interest rate loans become due and they need to start making payments as outlined in the loan contract. At the same time they have these huge accumulated debts on the credit cards that also need to be paid off. Unlike the government loans, these have a very high interest rate and are not easy to pay back. Now the question has to be asked, is the student that far ahead by attending school?

There should be no question that getting an education is a good idea. It should also be obvious that getting an education is like making an investment. You are spending money to better yourself in much the same way you might invest on renovating your home. It is a well known fact that university graduates over time earn far more money on average then do those with no formal education. The key is to ensure that students understand the dangers of improper credit card use so that they can avoid financial hardship after graduation.

The basics of short selling stocks

‘Shorting’ or short selling refers to the selling of a contract, a bond or stock or a commodity that is not directly owned by the seller. When practicing short selling, a seller is committed to purchase the stock or commodity previously sold.

Short selling stocks means to take the stock from a broker on loan and sell it off to someone else. This is done so that the seller buys back the stock, when the price falls. The shares are returned to the broker from whom they were initially borrowed. The shorting profit or the difference in price goes to the seller. Short selling of stocks is a technique used by investors to capitalize on a probable decline in the stock price.

To understand this better, let us consider a company, say, ABC whose shares currently sell at $12 each. A short seller borrows 50 shares of ABC and then sells those shares to someone else at $12 per share, for a total of $600. Now, if in future the price of shares of ABC falls to $10 per share, this short seller would then buy back those 50 shares at $500 ($10 multiplied by 50 shares), send back the shares to the original owner/broker and make a profit of $100.

Short selling is risky, if the price per share goes up instead of declining, as expected. Suppose the price per share of ABC goes up to $15 per share, then the short seller will have to cash in the previously sold 50 shares at $750, return the shares to the original owner and incur a loss of $150.

Shorting is a transaction done on margin. Most brokers do not agree to short selling stocks below $5. This enables the investors and short sellers to indulge in the high-risk trading of stocks.

Some of the following market situations help to predict a fall in price of stocks: -

- Market indexes coming near the prior resistance levels.

- Market trend showing technically overbought levels.

- Restlessness before the announcement of a state’s government.

- Market vulnerability during scandals.

Large volume selling of stocks often result in short-term high profits. However, there are certain guidelines to be followed for successful short selling. They are:

- All stocks are not ‘short’ able. Generally, brokers inform a seller whether a stock can be used for short selling or not.

- Sellers must open a margin account for short selling. This depends on the minimum balances and cash reserves. Sellers are required to sign a contract agreement with the brokers to open a margin account. This agreement clearly states that a seller will follow the rules and regulations stated by the broker.

-Target bad-performance, overpriced companies, since the probability of a fall in the share price involves lesser risk.

- Traders and short sellers should use stop orders to protect their capital from loss. Generally, brokers prevent a seller from suffering loss more than the principal. They may either compel the seller to quit the transaction or they may deposit funds to increase the seller’s capital.

The short selling of stocks involves a lot of discipline. Sellers need to be proactive, alert and disciplined when shorting stocks.

Making low rate credit cards possible

While plenty of cardholders around the world suffer from unpaid debts due to unsurpassable high interest rates, there are also some who enjoy low rated credit cards plus other benefits. Are there secrets on how to acquire a low interest rate credit cards or owning one that offers rewards?

Several people claim that credit cards are no other than a heavy yoke to their pocket. They would express their heartfelt hate to the credit companies and banks that do not in any way lower their rates though they maintain a good standing and credibility with them. How could these things go possibly true and untrue?

All credit card companies, except otherwise for some that chooses not to, apply the APR or known as the Annual Percentage Rate. APR is the interest being charged by the credit company to the borrowers. This interest rate includes other fees and add-on costs that is part of the transaction. There are other companies that associate APR with the penalties due to late payments, transaction fees and other forms. The APR may serve as the ground rate in which a lender can compare with other companies. There are provisions that mandate credit card companies to show the APR to customers so that the latter may have enough reason to whether go for the said credit line or not depending on the rate. In general, 12 % per annum is the accepted APR that is being asked from the client. However this rate may be changed and made higher but then it will need the approval of the authority. There are banks that convert APR into monthly rates but when compounded, the rate is just equivalent to the APR.

There are still a lot of fees that a credit company may ask from the client. APR is just one of plenty yields that they ask one to pay. But then, these additive rates maybe prevented or are scraped out by you through your company.

There is one possible way to get a low interest rate credit card. That is to look for a card with low APR and offers constant rating as long as your account is active. Here are some pointers in which one may use in order to find a good rate or better yet low interest rate credit cards.

-Beginners must seek for banks or any lending companies that offers low APR and penalty rates. These will help you check on whether you can possibly pay your balances or not. You can also ask the company if the interest rates that they have are constant from the activation of the account. If not, ask if the fluctuations or inflations are small enough that you can bear. Old card holders may call their credit card companies and ask whether they can convert the rates into a lower one. If not, tell them to cancel the account and try to temporarily transfer the balance into your other accounts and then open another with low interest rates.

-Keep yourself updated with the press releases of the Federal Reserve Board. This will help you know the current average accepted rate as compared to your accumulated earnings.

-Maintain a good credibility with your bank. Payment must be done ahead or on time to prevent penalties and to further solicit trust from your credit card company. Many good payers are being cared for by the lending companies.

When all these things does not work for you, then try some other ways without compromising your money and without dumping yourself into a pile of debt.

Acquiring a good knowledge of forex

Trading has been in existence for many years. It's been there ever since man has learned to make a way of living. Before, people traded goods for other goods; or goods for services and vice versa. All of these things are necessary for survival. But now, trading is not mainly about goods or services, it is much more than that.

Forex trading is not new in the market; in fact, it has been there for many, many years now. A lot of people find forex trading as a worthwhile and lucrative venture.

Forex trading basically involves the buying and/or selling of different foreign currencies in the global market, often referred to as the FX market. Having a portfolio filled largely with bonds, mutual funds, and stocks is simply not enough. Why not include different foreign currencies in your portfolio, this way you can have money in all its different aspects.

The financial market operates twenty four hours a day. The usual trading day starts in Sydney, Australia, and other markets around the globe follows. New York is the last market that opens.

You can find a lot of different currencies in the world. Almost every country has its own currency, but with regards to forex trading, the trading of currencies is only done with what is popularly called the majors. These currencies are highly regarded as majors because they are economically stable compared to other foreign currencies.

The major currencies that are traded in the FX market are Euro, British Pound, Canadian Dollar, American Dollar, Australian Dollar, Japanese Yen, and Swiss Franc.

People who don’t know anything about forex trading may find the business a bit strange, because typically, currencies are used to buy goods and services, and not currencies. May be its time for you to familiarize yourself with forex trading and engage in one yourself. Besides, it is a shame if you don’t know what this particular business means.

Don’t be left out, now you can even do forex trading in your home. You don’t need to go to the actual FX market, as long as you have an internet connection. Choose from among the many software programs available in the market. You can instantly get alerts about the market condition, the prices, and other important information. This software can even tell you when to buy and/or sell and get an instant profit.

There are a lot of things to consider when you start trading. It would be best if you can do a little research and learn what the business is all about; you must understand the whole process to avoid major losses. Forex trading may be a great way to make money, but when done in the wrong way, it can get very expensive.

Forex currency trading is risky compared to stocks and bonds. But it is also a lucrative business because you can actually gain a lot within a split of a second or a few minutes.

If you’re an ordinary individual, you can also take part in forex trading. Don’t think that only large organizations or banks take part in this huge financial market. People from all walks of life can be involved in forex trading as long as they know how to properly do it.

The next thing to do is to find the right system that works best for you. Again, do a bit of research; and you can take advantage of trial versions which are free of charge. Look for customer testimonials; and after carefully considering all the factors involved, you can choose one system that you can make use in your trade.

Another thing is to get a good broker who can effectively help you in your currency trading and together you can devise a strategy. And who knows, you might be the next person to earn a lot of money in the FX market.

If you think you can make it big in the forex market, make sure that you use all the available resources around you to be able to learn about the business. After you have gained knowledge about forex trading, and were able to devise an effective strategy, you are free to start currency trading as soon as possible.

The benefits and pitfalls of an endowment loan

Endowment mortgage loans are one of the most controversial types of loans, and have received good and bad press in equal measure. If you are looking for a mortgage loan, then you should look at an endowment mortgage loan as one option. Despite these loans being quite popular, they can be complex to understand. If you want to know more about the benefits and pitfalls of an endowment loan, then here are some useful tips to help you.

What are endowment loans?

Endowment loans are a type of mortgage that comprises of two parts. The first part is an interest-only mortgage loan that works like any other mortgage of this type. However, combined with this is an endowment policy that you set up and mature in order to pay off the mortgage at the end of the loan term. The policy is set up to grow enough to pay off the amount you borrow.

Benefits of an endowment loan

The major advantage of an endowment loan is that you have very low monthly payments, like you would have for an interest-only loan. However, there is an added bonus in that you are investing in a savings policy that will pay off your mortgage loan. This means you are saving on your monthly payments as well as spending your money wisely by investing in a policy to pay off your mortgage. This can reduce the cost of your mortgage loan whilst still keeping your payments low.

Pitfalls of an endowment loan

As well as benefits there are also pitfalls to an endowment loan. Although the interest-only loan will reduce your monthly payments, paying off only the interest means you are paying money without reducing your debt in any way. And you are still paying money into an investment fund so your monthly payments are more than just the interest. Also, the investment fund is designed to pay off the mortgage loan in full, but this is by no means guaranteed. Many people are finding themselves in a situation where there is a shortfall in the policy and they are unable to pay off the mortgage in full.

Endowment vs. repayment loan

The major alternative to an endowment loan is the traditional repayment loan, where you pay off the loan and interest each month until the entire amount is repaid. These types of loan carry higher monthly payments, and are a safer option than endowment loans. However, during times when inflation is increasing an endowment loan is a good idea, as the risk is reduced and you can benefit from lower payments each month. The key as to whether an endowment policy is right for you depends on the current market and how willing you are to risk the policy falling short of the full loan repayment amount.

Why budget

In order to take control of your financial situation and avoid going into excessive debt, or in order to get yourself out of debt - a budget is necessary. You also must have a budget if you plan to save money for retirement or other large ticket purchases. If you don’t want to be controlled by your money, you must take control of it and make your money work for you by using a budget.

Most people have no idea if they are living within their financial means or not, until they find themselves so far in debt that they can’t get out. If you have goals or dreams for your future, most will require a certain amount of money - without a budget, you are likely to never achieve those goals and dreams. Also, and probably among one of the most important reasons to budget is that it allows you to prepare for emergencies and the unexpected. Without a budget, these unexpected expenses can be detrimental to your finances, and even change your life.

For most people, “budget” is a “bad word”. If the term makes you shiver in fear, it’s possible that you have attempted a budget in the past that didn’t work for you. It’s also likely that you think of a budget as a lock and key over your wallet; but if you begin to understand that budgets are the road to financial success, you are likely to have a much easier time reaching your goals with a budget.

How Do You Spend Your Money?

Without a budget, it’s not possible to keep track of all of your spending. Many people think they know exactly where their money goes on a regular basis, but without a budget - I guarantee you will be surprised if you do a monthly tracking challenge. On a piece of paper, or in a small notebook that you can carry around with you, write down every cent you spend for a period of one month.

Write down every single coffee you buy at the local coffee shop, the candy bar and newspaper you picked up at the market, and absolutely everything you spend your money on for a period of a month. Add it up. I guarantee you had no idea you were spending that much money on the little “incidentals”.

Three Budgeting Techniques Lead to Financial Success

A large part of budgeting involves personal finance planning. All three of the following activities are important when creating a budget that you can live comfortably with, as well as one that helps you prepare for the long term.

Controlling Daily Spending: While it’s true that most people spend money on things that are not necessary, it’s important to allow yourself some money for this type of spending. Things that give you enjoyment are important, but you need to have a control over this type of day-to-day spending so that it doesn’t get out of control.

Creating Financial Safety: An often overlooked aspect of a personal budget, everyone should prepare for the unexpected. There needs to be access to money for things like a car breaking down unexpectedly, an illness or accident that puts you out of work for awhile, or a natural disaster.

Preparing for Financial Goals: Everyone has some financial goals. Whether you want to buy a house, send your kids to college without going broke, or retire at a young age - these are all activities that require financial preparation and budgeting.

Having a budget is a discipline approach to reaching your financial goals, having money for entertainment and for your quality of life, and being able to afford the items and expenses you have to pay.

Understanding the features of your car insurance

It is a common notion amongst people to believe that choosing a car insurance is as straightforward as choosing the right car, when buying a car. The fact is that car insurance can actually be pretty complicated. Many people simply nod their head and make their monthly insurance payments but they don't really understand what their coverage offers them.

Car Insurance Basics

Liability coverage is likely to be offered when you buy your car insurance. This is the basic coverage that you will find with any insurance policy and basically what this coverage does is pay for the bodily injury and property damage that is caused to others involved in the accident that you are at fault for.

Medical bills and lost wages are taken care of by the bodily injury coverage while property damage will cover up for the repair or replacement of the property that you damaged. This coverage does not pay for the damage that happens to you or your vehicle.

Liability insurance is often broken down into numbers such as 20/40/10, which means that your coverage includes $20,000 in bodily injury, $40,000 in bodily injury per accident, and $10,000 in property damage coverage.

The difference between collision (or comprehensive) coverage and liability coverage is that the former will repair your vehicles as well as the vehicles and people that you hurt in the accident caused by you. With this type of coverage you won't be able to receive more than the value of your car, but you will get something to put toward repairs or replacement of the vehicle.

The most expensive type of coverage is this one. But if you select to have a high deductible you will be able to keep your payments down and still have this coverage that you need if you are involved in an accident. Comprehensive coverage is considered as the ideal type as it also covers the damages caused to your car such as fire, theft, natural disasters, and/or hitting animals in the road.

You have a lot of choices in coverage options to choose from , for your car insurance policy. One such option is medical payment coverage. This coverage will pay for your as well as your passengers medical expenses when you have been involved in an accident.

One of other options also include PIP (personal injury protection) coverage. This coverage can help pay for those medical expenses but will also help you if you are unable to work, unable to take care of your kids, or if you have to pay for a funeral.

Uninsured or under insured motorist's coverage is yet another type of coverage you may want to consider purchasing. This coverage will help you pay for damages if you are struck by an uninsured or underinsured individual.

Other options that you may want to consider are rental reimbursement if you have to rent a vehicle because yours is in need of repair or stolen, towing and labor coverage, and gap coverage, which is coverage that pays the difference between the cash that you receive for a total car and the amount left on the car loan. When you are in any these situations, the add on features can come in really handy.

Smoking more expensive than you think

Are you a smoker? Have you ever tried to give up the habit? The chances are that you have, but like any addiction it can be (and usually is) extremely difficult to stop, and even attempts to cut down rarely last very long. Part of the problem is that smoking can be very enjoyable, but only too often something can turn up which will instantly remove the enjoyment. Unfortunately that ‘something’ will very often be loss of health.

The insurance industry is well aware of this fact, so not surprisingly they try to ensure that they do not lose money by covering high risk customers at low risk rates. At the same time non-smoking customers for life insurance have been piling on the pressure in their search for lower premiums. This is where the internet comes into the picture.

It used to be the case that at best, anyone looking for competitive quotations for life insurance had to be prepared to spend a lot of time searching adverts and telephone directories for likely companies. They also had to be prepared to spend a lot of time on the telephone collecting information, and then to settle down to long and careful comparisons, covering bits of paper in confusing and often indecipherable notes.

But all that has changed. Now all they have to do is go online and check out as many companies as they wish. They will find information which is very carefully presented for maximum clarity, because a confused enquirer is highly unlikely to become a customer. It is now so easy to reach a decision that a ‘price war’ has developed and some very competitive quotations are available. This competition has however had an inevitable effect in that insurance companies have had to tighten up their procedures or risk losing money on the narrower margins.

So they have hit the obvious target – smokers. Whilst the life insurance premiums for non-smokers have been steadily reducing, smoker’s premiums have moved away in the opposite direction. This has resulted in rates for smokers which are 100% or more above standard rates and still climbing. This, on top of the cost of the cigarettes (currently estimated to be approaching Ј100,000 in a lifetime and still climbing) means that anyone who still smokes must be very determined not to curtail their enjoyment.

Critical illness insurance is another policy which many people take out, to provide financial security for their families in the event of loss of income due to lengthy illness. It is reasonably self-evident that this too will be a great deal more expensive for smokers, simply due to their greater propensity for such illnesses as a result of their addiction.

So do you dig your heels in and continue to enjoy smoking, or do you give way to the financial pressure (not to mention the widespread anti-smoker climate) and give up the habit. The sad news is that even if you grit your teeth and stop smoking, as far as the insurance companies are concerned you are not out of the woods (or the Woodbines) for at least 12 months or maybe much longer. Some may require complete cessation for at least five years – contact your intended insurers after 12 months completely smoking free and see how the premiums look now. A considerable cost reduction should be evident.

Some folks cheat themselves and their friends by claiming to have stopped smoking when they are still sneaking the odd one in dark corners. This is up to the individual, but don’t try it with your insurers; it would not be difficult for a relatively low-key enquiry to expose the lie and your cover (in both meanings of the word!) would be blown. All the effort, the subterfuge, the self-deceiving would have been wasted. You would not be insured.

Right, you have made the praiseworthy and not inconsiderable effort and you are now a non-smoker. You can feel some justifiable pride as you tick the ‘NO’ box on a form with a smoking query. Now take advantage of your position, get on the internet and shop around for insurance quotes. You may be pleasantly surprised by some of the offers which you get, but don’t let your euphoria get the better of you. A move too soon, before everything has been confirmed, could leave you with a cancelled policy with your old company and an oversight leading to rejection by your new company; result no cover. Check the details carefully, finalise all the figures and then change to your new insurer.

Finally, don’t let those savings in expenditure just melt away. Add the money saved on cigarette purchases to the money saved on reduced premiums and invest it, and just watch that total climb!

Paying for college fees

It is nearly impossible for anyone to attend college these days without having to rely on some form of credit and financial aid. The cost of college has skyrocketed over the last few decades and without credit in the form of student loans many people simply would not be able to attend. The costs would be too prohibitive.

Even though the costs of attending college are high, the new global markets and other high paying job opportunities all but demand that a college degree be obtained. This article discusses some ways to ease the burden of paying for college.

Saving and borrowing are the two most common ways of getting money for college. Here are some tips on how you can do both in an effective way.

You can consider using Education IRAs:

These savings vehicles can be an excellent choice for saving for college but they work best when they are started early. Some of the features they offer include: Penalty-free withdrawals as long as the money is used for higher-education expenses for yourself, your spouse, a child, or grandchild. These IRAs allow for qualified expenses. These include tuition, fees, and room and board for postsecondary education and that includes graduate school. The tax advantages of IRAs make them an excellent place to begin saving for an education but, again, they need to be started early so that they have time to grow.

There are many state tuition savings programs available. Many states have tax-advantaged college savings programs that you can join and participate in. They offer nationwide participation which means you can use them no matter where you live. They are also very flexibility. You can open an account for a child, grandchild, or other young person. Best of all there are no limits, which means there are no annual limits to the amount you can contribute.

You may also wish to use home equity loans. With this type of loan you use the equity in your home to help finance the costs. There are some advantages to this. For example, the interest can be tax deductible, and the money is yours to use for any school you choose.

Some of the most popular options are the various student loans that are available. Student loans usually have lower interest rates and the interest can be tax deductible with some restrictions. There are a variety of student loans available. Some of the more well known include: Stafford loans, which are subsidized and unsubsidized federal loans. Private loans, which are very useful when federal loans are not enough to cover costs.

Student loans have to be repaid, of course, and there are many options open for students and parents for doing this. A standard repayment is the principal and interest payments divided into equal monthly installments throughout the repayment period. Another option is to consolidate the loans. This type of payment option will combine all eligible federal loans into a single new loan with a single monthly payment. Then there are the graduated repayment options. These offer smaller payments at the beginning of the repayment term which gradually increase over time. It is supposed that as you begin to go to work and make your career you will be able to pay the higher rate.

Most successful financial strategies

In one’s quest to be a successful person, work ethic and perseverance is the traditional key to reach our dreams. Since we started learning that hard work pays off, we come to think that each step of activity will get us where we want to be. However, for people who want to be self-made millionaires, they know that a lot more is at stake.

In a changing financial mindset, self-made millionaire Jamie McIntyre believes that hard work is not enough. The truth is, if hard work is the end of it all then there should be more successful people. After all, can we actually say to ourselves that we have outworked everyone? Even when we worked at our utmost capacity, we know that someone can still outwork us. Thus, when it comes to adapting a millionaire’s mindset, hard work does not hold much water.

This is the value of a successful financial strategy. Along with a changing mindset, financial strategies are a reflection of smart work. As Jamie McIntyre said, “working hard and making money have nothing to do with each other in the 21st century.” Hard work can surely take you places. However, if you want to make money, you have to care more than “working hard.”

Let us take the example of Jamie McIntrye’s father. As a farmer, his father is now a prosperous and financially independent person at his age. Learning from Jamie’s grandfather, his father believed that hard work is the key to success. Even when he became rich he still believed in that. However, hard work is just an integral part of being rich. His father instead found a way to create wealth by buying land at a low price and waited to increase its value over a period of time. All the while, his wealth is created even while sleeping. Where is the hard work in that? Finding a successful strategy is more about intuition and changing perception. Sometimes hard work even blinds us to a point that we stop thinking and that is when things can get frisky. If you want to develop a successful financial strategy, start thinking.

Another well driven financial strategy is finding the opportunities in risks. As you can imagine, these strategies are not your normal laundry methods where you wash, dry, and repeat. Finding the best opportunities involves having the heart and the focus to make tough decisions despite the overwhelming forces that can stop you from acting on your instinct.

Jamie McIntyre continues his family story in driving this point. His mother always wanted a coffee shop that she could own for herself. Seeing the opportunity, her mother bought a coffee shop business. However, when the seller also offered the building where the coffee shop is located, she did not buy it since that would mean borrowing the needed money to finance the purchase of the building.

As the years go by, she struggled to manage her coffee shop to a point that she did not pay herself a salary. What more, she struggled to pay the rent of the building that could have been hers. In the end all her hard work in what seems to be a promising business, turned into more hard work. The spiral continues.

In this example, Jamie McIntyre tells us that if we are presented with an opportunity, it is not enough to think hard. Thinking hard involves being too hesitant while losing the will to act. Meanwhile, thinking smart will allow us to see the opportunities before the hindrances speak to us. Jamie explained that if her mother made the right move and bought the building, she could have been presented with more successful options.

Successful financial strategies come from an evolving financial mindset and the gut to act on your financial instinct. Thus, the biggest return does not come from hard work. Instead, it comes from unlocking keys of wealth creation by working smartly.

Penny stocks

Penny stocks are usually not listed at the major stock exchanges like the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) or the NASDAQ because they don't meet the listing requirements. Listed stocks must have a minimum number of shareholders, minimum assets and file financial reports regularly. They are also under the strong supervision of the SEC, the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Penny stocks are usually traded on the OTCBB or on the Pink Sheets. The OTCBB (OTC Bulletin Board) is an electronic quotation system for over-the-counter securities that are not listed with one of the national stock exchanges. The only requirement is that the companies file financial reports to the SEC. If not, the company is removed from the OTCBB listing and the stock can only be quoted on the Pink Sheets. The Pink Sheets activities are not supervised or regulated by the SEC.

If the company has less than $10 million in total assets or less than 500 shareholders in total then no filings must be done at all.

Penny stocks are for these reasons wide open to scams and manipulation. The stock price is usually far below $5 and market capitalization is very small as the companies itself are very small. The lack of reporting requirements can make it difficult to find verified information about the company, its financial situation and outlook.

Many fraudsters take advantage of this and publish misleading information to manipulate the stock price. Because of the lack of public interest and low number of shareholders the trading volume is generally low. This means that a few buy or sell orders can have dramatic effect on the share price.

The low liquidity is at the same time the biggest advantage of penny or micro-cap stocks. While a listed stock can almost never move several hundred percent within a few days, a penny stock can do that easily. The low share price makes it possible to acquire a big amount of shares with a small amount of money. Little price increases or decreases have therefore big impact on the performance.

The low stock prices and limited capital requirements often attract novice traders but penny stocks are definitely a playing field for experienced investors only. Penny stocks are high risk investments. Many companies won't probably succeed and go bankrupt. The shares will end up worthless.

Many penny stock companies have no or very limited working capital, assets or are in development stage for months or years before any revenues can be expected. Be aware that you probably can't sell your shares for days or weeks or only at a big discount because of the limited liquidity.

You can find cheap Salt Lake City car insurance in Utah if you get any of the above kinds of auto insurance discounts. Remember to ask the insurance agent of each company you’re considering about each discount. Just because a discount on Salt Lake City car insurance is available doesn’t mean the agent will remember to tell you.

Home insurance make sure your equipment and belongings are insured

Working from home is not a new idea. People have been working from home for years doing a wide array of odd jobs. Some people sold magazine subscriptions over the telephone. Some people stuffed envelopes for companies. These days, however, working from home carries a certain clout that it didn’t carry years ago; that’s because people aren’t just working from home anymore. People are running home businesses.

Since technology is so advanced in the 21st century, people who run home businesses have come to rely heavily on computers and other electronic gadgets in order to communicate with clients, as well as both create and deliver the products. Some people base their home businesses on freelance writing, in which they can use their computers’ writing software programs to write, and even send the finished product to the client using email. Others base their home businesses on graphic design, which the do completely on the computer using graphic design software, and can, once again, send the finished product to the client using email. This is easy, and inexpensive, because no paper is required and email is free.

When people work for someone else, the “boss” usually handles business management. However, just because people own home businesses doesn’t mean they don’t have to practice good business management. One of the best business management steps is making sure your equipment – the very tools that make it possible for you to work – is covered by insurance.

Some homeowners’ insurance policies cover your home business equipment, and some don’t. If yours does, find out how much coverage you have and whether you should purchase more. If yours doesn’t, consider purchasing insurance coverage.

When you make the home business management step of purchasing insurance for your home business equipment, remember: your computer isn’t the only tool you use. Take into account all accessories pertinent to your home business, including digital cameras, printers, scanners, fax machines, and copiers.

Back to school on a budget

Getting ready for heading back to school is a period of the year where the pressure is on the parents more than the kids. Children are off enjoying the summer, and they're not oriented on worrying about school supplies in the middle of July. After all, school doesn't start until the end of August, right?

That's true, but preparing for going back to school means parents really do need to start preparing ahead of time. Waiting until the week before school to sort out supplies, buy schoolbags, and shop for clothes in a rush is a bad idea and only adds to the stress and costs. Taking the time to prepare means the back-to-school money crunch is something other parents have to deal with – not you. Here are some ideas to help trim the back-to-school budget.

When you receive the list of supplies that your child needs, you may feel the need to scramble to the stores. Don't worry; there are plenty of supplies to go around and your child won't be lacking anything. Carry your list in your purse at all times, and shop over a period of time, keeping an eye out for sales. Shop on your own, too. Don't bring the kids along, because that's a situation that guarantees your children will hone in on the most expensive and flashiest school supplies available.

Avoid buying the gear with the latest cartoon character on it. While your child may love the current characters from the Disney cartoons, in six months that same character will fall from favor, replaced by another. The emblazoned lunchbox and schoolbag so loved at the beginning of the year will end up being items the child doesn't like any more.

Speaking of lunchboxes, the best ones on the market today are thermal and soft-sided. These lunchboxes keep food cool and safe for consumption, as there aren't any refrigerators for student use in most schools. Avoid using zip-lock baggies and choose some reusable plastic containers with leak-proof seals instead. A thermos is a nice idea for hot meals during cold winter months. Keep in mind that kids love fast, easy food.

Choose sturdy schoolbags that are well made and durable. Kids put their schoolbags through some pretty rough treatment, and the "cool" bags often end up with rips and tears midway through the school year. Backpacks are a better choice, and you can even select great ones from the camping section of a store. Kids will love the zippers and pockets on these backpacks, and parents enjoy the ergonomic value the bags provide. Backpacks will be on sale too, as the summer season winds down!

Many parents stock up on new clothing for school during the summer. Shop for pieces that kids can mix-and-match together. A very good-sized wardrobe for kids is ten different shirts and seven pairs of pants in interchangeable colors and styles. Try to avoid the "in" thing, as it won't be "in" six months down the road. On the other hand, being "in" is important to teens and peer acceptance, so allow your teen to select one or two pieces of clothing that are hot fashion as a bit of a compromise.

There are plenty of other tips that help make the transition back to school a breeze, but beginning with these thrifty ideas is a start. You'll be able to cut corners on expenses and provide your kids with what they need to start the school year right.

Business credit cards a way to help track business expenses

Whether you're starting up the new business or have been established for a number of years, the use of business credit cards can be a great benefit to your business. These cards come in handy when it comes to handling operating expenses or unexpected costs. On top of that, paying off the credit card bill on our regular basis can also help a company build its credit standing and improve its ability to obtain loans for future expansion and growth.

Virtually all business credit cards are going to be a under the name of the owner of the company. The credit card issuer requires this information and holds that cardholder responsible for the payments. Various financial institutions, as well as banks, will require a name and other personal information before even considering issuing you a card for your business. Interestingly enough, even if the business has an outstanding track record and has a good credit rating, if the owner of the business has a lousy credit rating, the rates offered to the business will be higher.

Many card companies will offer various programs for businesses and will also supply detailed billing information that can be used for accounting purposes. Having detailed billing will provide the business owner with information on every purchase made as well as providing proof when it comes to tax deductions. The majority of business credit cards require written authorization for charges being made by someone other than the business owner. This is a good safety mechanism to have because it will protect the business from fraudulent use.

Business Credit Cards Can Help Preserve Cash

Depending on the interest rate of the business credit cards that your company is being charged, if you need to upgrade assets and equipment, it may be cheaper to purchase them on your credit card instead of using your business cash. Of course, there will be certain business expenses that you will not want to charge on the card, such as payroll. However, assets such as office furniture or equipment, treated as an asset investment and with lower credit card rate, can make better economic sense that paying with cash. The tax deduction could be higher then the interest you will pay.

Once you have received your business credit cards, care and caution will be required. One thing for sure, you do not want to use these cards for personal use. First and foremost, it will be necessary to keep your personal and business expenses separate for both tax and accounting purposes. You do not want to have your business paying interest on your personal stuff, such as a family's night out at the movies or a trip to the supermarket store. Any personal charges inadvertently charged on your business account will have to be well documented in order to maintain proper legal separation. That being said, a business credit card is a great tool for any business to have. Just make sure that the card is used for business purposes only.

Are you a single mother struggling to make your monthly debt repayments? Did you know that you can use a low interest debt consolidation loan as a powerful first step in taking control of your finances?

It’s easy to get so caught up with the busyness and demands of life that we don’t take (or even notice) the simple steps that change our lives for the better; a low interest debt consolidation loan is a simple and powerful action. For most single moms, stress is a way of life and financial stress is an added burden that can make being a parent more difficult than it needs to be.

It is easy to fall into the debt trap with emergency medical costs, shoes, clothes and things children need that you just can’t put off. Nevertheless, putting off dealing with your debt problem will only make the situation worse.

If you are a single mom, there are five main advantages of consolidating debt into one low interest debt consolidation loan:

1. It will increase your disposable income, which is always important for a single mom.

2. A low interest debt consolidation loan will improve your long term financial position by saving a lot of money in interest costs and limiting your debt to a set period of time.

3. You will only have one payment to worry about instead of having to juggle a lot of them. When you’re on your own with kids, anything that simplifies your life makes things easier.

4. It will take a lot of stress off you, which will help you to cope better with the other unavoidable stresses involved in being a parent.

5. A low interest debt consolidation loan can be the beginning of a financial plan. At the end of the term of the loan, the payment amount can be saved and you can begin to build wealth. If your monthly savings from consolidating are enough, you may be able to use a part of the money to start a small savings plan immediately.

If you want your low interest debt consolidation loan to provide the best long term benefits, it is important to cancel all credit cards and lines of credit once they are paid out, to avoid the possibility of future debt. Devise a strict financial budget that includes saving for emergencies and make a firm decision to live within your means. A low interest debt consolidation loan is an effective way for single mothers to get their financial lives in order. It’s up to them, to keep it that way.

Let your knowledge pay you some extra retirement income

Is there a topic that you have become particularly knowledgeable about? Have you had particular challenges in your life that you had to overcome? Do you have a hobby or a craft that you have a compelling interest in? Perhaps, you perfected a skill in a particularly technical area during your career. Did you ever think that you knew a better way to accomplish something, if only you had the chance?

All of us have some area of our lives that we have focused on enough to develop a particular set of skills in or knowledge about. We have come to take our experience, knowledge and skills for granted as we approach or reach retirement age.

What if there was a way that you could set up an “Information Stand” on your own street and have a stream of people arrive at your information stand each and every day. Heck, they each would even pay you a small fee to have their questions on your topic answered! Do you think that this might provide a little extra cash to supplement your retirement income? You bet it would.

Remember your childhood. Did you ever have a Kool-Aid stand on your street on a hot Summer day? Yeah, it was great. Adults would pay 5 cents per cup (some would even pay more) and when you ran out of Kool-Aid, you would simply make up another batch. You could do this until all of the adults had their thirst quenched and then sales would drop off.

Well, you can easily set up an “Information Stand” on the Internet at which to provide answers on the topic of your passion. There are some interesting characteristics of your “Information Stand” that make it better than a Kool-Aid stand:

1. Unlike Kool-Aid, you never run out of Information. In fact, you even gain more and better information as a result of the dialogue and the research that you do in building your Information Stand.

2. You become known as an expert. That’s right, the more activity that you have at your stand, the better you become known as a reliable source of information on your topic. In fact, when this occurs and the perception of your information becomes more valuable, people will be willing to pay more for your information.

3. Unlike the Kool-Aid stand, you can sell the information without you having to be there. You can even sell information while you are asleep or out playing with the other ‘kids’!

4. As word spreads like a virus about your information stand, the sheer number of people coming to your stand will increase exponentially.

5. Instead of being limited to just your street, you can have your Information Stand on the biggest Information superhighway of them all – the Internet!

6. Unlike the Kool-Aid stand, the line of people coming to your Information Stand never ends. In fact, as the word of your Information Stand gets out like a virus on the Internet, you will have an increasing number of people coming to you for answers to their questions. People from all over the world will be coming to your Information Stand all hours of the day and night! If you build it, they will come!

The very best news is that the technology now exists for you to establish your Information Stand on the Internet for an investment of less than $30 and a bit of your time. The software necessary to do this can be downloaded free of charge and the remaining components can be purchased inexpensively(Domain name - $7, Autoresponder - $20). You can visit my website to view video tutorials that show you exactly how to set up your Information Stand. It could not be easier!

Claim your place on the Internet today. Leverage your experience and knowledge into a stream of supplemental retirement income. You already have the knowledge needed, just carve out your niche and get going. It does not have to be perfect. In fact, it has been said that “Imperfect action is more productive than perfect inaction!” Take your first step today.

How forex can affect your company

If you work with a company that does international business, then you have a connection to the concept of Forex.

Short for foreign exchange, the concept has to do with calculating out the current rate of exchange between currencies of different countries.

Here are some of the factors that come into play when it comes to arriving at and updating those rates of exchange, and how that impacts the bottom line of your employer.

There are actually quite a few different factors that come into play in order to arrive at a current rate of exchange on the currencies of any two given countries.

For now, let's focus just on the economic issues that often come into play.

The most basic of the economic factors is the balance between imported and exported goods and services between the two countries. Ideally, the trade flow between the two countries will be somewhat balanced and very steady in nature.

However, should the situation shift so that the demand for a given country's goods and services decreases, then there will be a downward change in the rate of exchange between the two currencies.

What this will mean for your company is that any rates they have extended to foreign entities, if the rates were extended in something other than the currency of the country where the client resides, will yield less gross profit.

In some cases, the shift could become so severe that you cease to make any real profit off the business at all.

Of course, the flow of goods and services is not the only economic indicator that comes into play.

The fiscal responsibility of your government also comes into play when rates of exchange are put into place.

As an example, if your country is currently experiencing a budget deficit - that is spending far more revenue than it is taking in - this will unfavorably impact the rate of exchange of your currency.

Governments that over time have demonstrated the ability to incrementally cut their national debt rather than have a sudden upswing in deficit will enjoy a better rate of currency exchange with other countries.

For your company, that means anyone that you have quoted in terms of the currency of your home country will very possibly be making more profit for you today than they did yesterday.

Generally, companies tend to bill international customers in the type currency used by those clients.

For example, if you are a US based company that has a sizable UK clientele, you will bill those British clients in terms of British pound sterling rather than American dollars.

In order to provide conversions for billing, many companies opt to use the rate of exchange as of the day that the goods and services are actually billed, even if the actual usage took place earlier in the month.

This helps to keep the invoicing easy for your Accounts Receivable personnel as well as making it easy for your customer's Payables department to process. T

his can also keep the process of Forex from creating any type of credibility issues from arising for you or for your client.

It should be noted Forex trading involves substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for all investors.

Life insurance when only the best will do

We’re all too used to hearing about rising prices. But there’s one thing that now costs less than ever – good life insurance! Intrigued? Read on …

No-one likes to think about the worst that could happen. But proper life insurance cover could protect your family, providing them with the means to cope financially should you pass on. Life insurance cover is divided into three main types. Here is our jargon-busting guide to de-mystifying what they are, and what they mean:

· First we have the level term policy. This pays a one-off cash payment when you die. The amount is agreed when you take out the policy and does not change.

· An increasing term policy is also known as indexed insurance and the amount paid out changes with inflation. Some policies of this type may have premiums that rise with inflation too, but some do not.

· Lastly a decreasing term policy pays out an amount on death that decreases through time, getting smaller as the policy progresses. A long-lived customer may even outlive the point where the policy pays anything at all.

These policy types often form part of loan or mortgage deals. There are benefits to each type, depending on the loan or mortgage it is being used to safeguard.

Level term policies are most usually used with interest only mortgages. This type of mortgage does not reduce the capital you borrowed with time – you only pay off the interest. When you die, the capital amount is paid off by the insurance policy payout. Whatever may happen with inflation, it does not change.

Increasing term policies cost more, but offer protection against inflation.

Decreasing term policies are usually used with repayment mortgages. In this type of mortgage the capital is paid off along with the interest, decreasing the amount you owe. This type of insurance has lower premiums than level term insurance.

Term policy payments can be settled in two ways: either as a single or “lump” sum, or as “family income benefit”. This second method means that an agreed amount is paid to your family as an income for the remaining duration of the policy. The method you use affects the cost of the premium you will have to pay. If you consider that the longer a policy holder lives, the fewer family income payments an insurance company will have to make, you can see why this type is cheaper.

So far, we have only discussed insurance for mortgages and loan payments. These are both useful, but there are other things you can do to ensure peace of mind.

A typical, average family, it is estimated, will need insurance for both parents worth at least Ј150,000 in insurance for each child, in addition to any death-in-service benefits you may expect ( these usually come with your employment). Taking the option of family income benefit, it’s recommended that you should allow for an income of Ј20,000 to Ј25,000 a year for each child.

There is another alternative form of life insurance. It pays out a guaranteed sum on the death of the policy holder (the sum assured), and is known as whole of life. The terms for this type of insurance vary.

You can also buy life insurance bundled with your pension fund. This gives you the opportunity of getting tax relief on the premiums you pay. A higher rate tax payer can get Ј100 worth of life insurance for only Ј60, which makes this an attractive method to some. On the downside, higher administration costs for this type mean higher premiums overall, so basic tax rate payers may prefer to shop around and compare to make sure they get the best deal.

Some couples take out a joint policy covering both at once, but it’s better to take out individual insurance. The reason for this is that a joint policy pays out only once, when the first partner dies, but individual policies pay out for each partner.

We’ve given an overview of the different policies and what might be best for you here, but for more in-depth and up-to-the-minute advice we recommend finding an Internet insurance broker. Surf onto the ‘net, and into a great deal – and peace of mind for you and your family, hopefully for many years to come!
